The Perfect Reason to Move to Downtown Norfolk? A Job!…

Now Accepting Applications: Glass Wheel Studio in the NEON District

An incubator for extraordinary ideas is opening across the parking lot from Work | Release, and across the street from the Virginian-Pilot, later this year.

According to official materials, Glass Wheel Studio will be a contemporary art facility located in the heart of Norfolk’s NEON Arts District. The newly renovated 8,500 square foot space will feature two rotating galleries and affordable artist studios. Through stimulating exhibitions and an active Studio Artist Program, Glass Wheel Studio will cultivate a deep appreciation for contemporary art in glass and beyond.

Who should apply?

“If you are an artist that has big ideas but need the space and support and feedback to see them come to life, then this is the ideal program for you,” said Glass Wheel director Cheryl White.

Glass Wheel is going to be a gorgeous facility, with studio spaces that bring the concept next level for the Hampton Roads region.

“The studio spaces are really coming together beautifully,” said White. “Brick walls, exposed ceiling rafters… we have really tried to preserve the architecture and history of the building.”

Application period for the 2015–16 session is June 1–July 31. Program session for 2015–16 is November 1, 2015–December 1, 2016* (*Due to 2015 construction, dates for the 2015–16 program may fluctuate slightly with the potential for an extended 13-month session.) All applicants must be United States citizens or legal Permanent Residents of the United States, 18 years or older.
