Returning Military Look Forward to Homeownership

Homeownership is something many members of the military look forward to when they return from service. At the end of their tours, soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines — and their families — want a home.

Why? For 88 percent, it makes them feel safer. For 73 percent, it’s simply about owning their own house. Others want to use it as a starting point for starting a family, or appreciate the financial security being a homeowner can bring.

This perspective comes from a study NAR is reporting on, conducted by Century 21 around Veterans Day.

Another tidbit it found: Military families aren’t rushing in. Only 33 percent said they went looking within a year of returning. (Issues like affordability and down payments come into play.)
