A new year; a new list.
The online investment news site 24/7 Wall St. has declared Virginia Beach “the best run city” in America.
So what does that mean?
The writers said they examined data related to local economies, fiscal discipline and standard of living for each of the nation’s 100 largest cities. Cities were ranked based on violent crime and poverty rates, educational attainment of residents and credit rating. Based on those factors, Miami was dubbed the nation’s worst run city.
The article praised Virginia Beach for its AAA credit rating, anchored by a large and diverse tax base and the city’s “carefully managed financial position.”
Chesapeake also made the top 10, landing at No. 6. The city’s proximity to employment hubs in Norfolk and Virginia Beach were listed among its strengths. Norfolk did not make the list.
Irving, Calif., Madison, Wis., Fremont, Calif., and Lincoln, Neb., rounded out the top five.
